What Doublesharp is, and isn’t

  • Doublesharp is a private practice app for anyone working towards ABRSM theory grades 1 to 5: a placement test, topic-by-topic practice, and practice papers in the shape of the real exam.
  • Doublesharp is aligned to the ABRSM theory syllabus in the way a workbook is. It is not made, endorsed or approved by ABRSM, and it is not affiliated with, or licensed from, ABRSM or any other exam board.
  • Any score, level, or progress signal in Doublesharp is a practice estimate, not a real exam result. It is not a prediction of your ABRSM grade, and it should not be used on its own to decide when to enter the exam.
  • Doublesharp provides no guarantee about any outcome, academic or otherwise. We can’t and don’t promise that using the app will improve a learner’s theory knowledge or exam result.
  • We accept no liability for any decision made on the basis of Doublesharp output, to the maximum extent permitted by UK law.

Who runs Doublesharp

Doublesharp is operated by an individual UK-based operator trading as Doublesharp. For any question about these terms, email hello@doublesharp.co.uk.

Who can use it

We don’t set an age range. Grade 5 theory is the same paper whoever sits it, and the people who need it are as likely to be a nine-year-old racing ahead or an adult coming back to music as the twelve-year-old the app was first written for.

The account holder must be 18 or older. There are two kinds of learner profile on an account:

  • Your own. No invite and no PIN: you are already signed in, and nobody else can see it.
  • Someone else’s. Set up and supervised by you. You create the profile, and they join via an invite link you send them and a code they choose. By creating one you confirm you are that person’s parent, legal guardian or authorised instrumental teacher, and that you have the right to set up an account on their behalf.

Anyone under 18 uses Doublesharp through an adult’s account. That adult can see, export or delete everything held about them at any time.

Beta status

Doublesharp is in open beta. The free tier is currently the only tier. We may change the scope, features, pricing, grades covered, or availability at any time. We’ll give reasonable notice (account email) before any change that affects your existing data or that introduces a charge.

The free tier is not crippled and will stay free even after a paid tier launches.

Acceptable use

By using Doublesharp, you and any learner on your account agree:

  • Not to share account or invite credentials with anyone who isn’t the intended user.
  • Not to use the service to harass, defame, or harm anyone.
  • Not to attempt to scrape, copy, redistribute, or resell the question bank, app code, or any other content. The bank is the result of a lot of human + LLM editorial work; if you want to use it commercially, email us first.
  • Not to attempt to bypass authentication, the separation between one learner and another, or the admin role gate.

We may suspend or close any account that breaches these rules. We’ll email you first if we possibly can.

Your data, your control

What we collect, why, and how to delete it is covered in full in the privacy policy. Short version: minimum data, no third-party trackers, EU-hosted, ask us to delete anything any time.

You can soft-delete a learner profile (with a 30-day restore window) or hard-delete your whole adult account at any time from the dashboard.

Intellectual property

The Doublesharp app, brand, and question bank are the property of the operator. We grant the adult account a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them for the purpose of practising at home with their own children.

References to ABRSM grades and the ABRSM theory syllabus describe alignment only, as explained above. ABRSM is a trademark of its owner and is used here in a descriptive, non-affiliated sense only.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by UK law: Doublesharp is provided “as is”. We make no warranties, express or implied, about its fitness for any particular purpose, including any educational or exam-preparation purpose.

We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from decisions made on the basis of the app’s output. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for anything we cannot lawfully exclude (death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, etc.).

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales. Disputes will be heard in the courts of England & Wales unless local consumer-protection law gives you a different right that you choose to exercise.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in any material way, we’ll email account holders, bump the “last updated” date at the top, and add a short summary of what changed. Continued use after that update constitutes acceptance.

Questions or worried about something specific? Email hello@doublesharp.co.uk. We try to answer within a couple of working days.
